Should I have my text blackened or plain? It is a thought many of you have and a question we get asked a lot! So let's delve into what each mean and then it may be easier for you to decide.
Firstly let's touch on the care instructions. Everything from here onwards completely depends on how you care for your personalised piece. You have care instructions with your order and they are here under the CARING FOR YOUR JEWELLERY tab.
Blackened text. This is where we oxidise the depression that is made when we stamp your precious words/names. It makes your lettering bold! It will stand out in the distance and have a real definition to it. It can also bring together some of the details whether it be symbols, hand/foot prints, fingerprint lines and more.
How does it work? This is a chemical process and is permanent if the care instructions are followed but will fade or be completely removed if you don't. Water is the big one here as it washes over the oxide slowly removing it. Also chemicals, perfume sprayed directly on, washing in soapy water or spray on sunscreen will affect the longevity of the oxide.
With the MIKAH CARE CLUB we polish and re oxidse your piece so if it does fade then it is a simple process to have it replaced.
Plain text. This is where we simply stamp your beautiful names/words and leave them as that. While the text isn't as bold it has it's own beauty, a refinement in the shine and also keeps your text more private as it isn't bold to those in the distance.
There is no maintenance and means your piece will consistently look the same. You still need to adhere to the care instructions but unlike oxidised text there is chance of your text looking different if the oxide has been exposed to conditions that aren't favourable.
You may still want to use the Mikah Care Club if you want us to polish your piece.
We hope that has answered any questions you may have and made your decision easier.
