Caring For Your Jewellery - Aluminium
We use aluminium for some of our bracelet products, as well as our limited release Christmas and gift collections. Aluminium is a soft metal which allows it to be malleable for bracelets; it doesn't tarnish and can easily be polished to bring back its shine. Care needs to be taken with aluminum as it is a soft metal, but we only use it in pieces that will be limited to stress and strain.
With proper care, your piece of aluminium jewellery or limited release item will last many many years. Below are some tips to help you get the most out of your aluminium. Daily - Put your piece on after you have applied make-up/perfume. If you apply perfume it will eventually tarnish. Tarnishing will remove the top layer of the aluminum, leaving it permanently duller in appearance. - Take your piece off before showering, cleaning with chemicals, swimming or when sleeping. This helps limit the exposure to chemicals and stress from movement. - Wipe your piece clean with a soft polishing cloth to remove any body oils from building up. - Store in an area that has less humidity (not the bathroom) in a sealed bag. Cleaning To avoid harsh chemicals or abrasives I find it best to clean aluminium jewellery with a polishing cloth. Using a polishing cloth will also maximize the shine and luster you can bring back to your piece, other cloths or paper towel may have small fibers you can’t see that can scratch the surface. The oxidization (or darkening of the letters on your piece of hand stamped jewellery) may wear over time; this may be more evident after cleaning if you have worked too much around the grooves where the item has been stamped. We are happy to re-oxidize your item for you if it is possible, this depends on the piece you have purchased, contact us to arrange. |
